Welham Girls School, Dehradun

Welham Girls School was established in the year 1957 by Miss. H. S. Olipanth. Her dream was to build an educational institution for women. There were no funds, no teachers, no children and no building to open the school except the strong belief and spirit to fulfill the dream. With the support and guidance of Miss. Linnell, the ‘Welham’ was named after the Welsh Village.

Motto Of The School The motto of the school is Aartta Shanti Phalla Vidya. It means to fulfill the education so as to bring peace to the sufferings. They believe to build in them the qualities of discipline and responsibility and to inbuild in them the spirit of service and fair play. HOUSE SYSTEM The school divides the students into five houses. They are- Red House- Bulbul Blue House- Flycatcher Orange House- Hoopoes Yellow House- Orioles Green House- Woodpeckers DORMITORIES They have 5 hostel buildings with separate sections for Junior and Senior Students. They are maintained by the house mistress and matrons. Students get the healthy and nutritious foods as the mess is supervised by the staff members. They provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods to students. Milk, vegetables, fruits are included in their daily meal. It creates a friendly environment as both teachers and students have their meals together. They also have an infirmary in the hostel which is supervised by the experienced Doctors and Nurses. Each student have to undergo the medical check-up regularly. Facilities The facilities provided by the school are as follows- They have various laboratories for different subjects like Physics, Chemistery, Biology, Computer Science, History, Geography, and Home Science. They prefer audio-visual based teaching aids. The school provide library facility where students are encouraged to make use of the various books that acts as the support medium in their studies. They organize educational trips and make them to attend the seminars and the international programmes so that they can gain knowledge from outside environment also. Apart from the two languages i.e. Hindi and English, the school prefers to learn one of the extra language as the third language from the given option between Sanskrit, Punjabi, Bengali and Urdu. The school provides various sports activities like basketball, football, athletics, hockey, lawn tennis, table-tennis. They also provide various other activities to make them fit and active like yoga, karate, and aerobics.
